The Rogue, Chetco, and South
Umpqua Rivers are world renowned for their steelhead opportunities. These waters hold large native steelheads of eighteen-plus pounds. Hatchery steelhead can be smaller, however they do not lack any
fighting instinct. A twelve-pound hatchery hen can peel line off a reel
as fast as any fish. Steelhead fishing seasons are January through
April and August through November.
Summer Steelhead - August through November
This season is wonderful for all fishing
enthusiasts. Using a variety of fishing techniques, four to fifteen pound
steelhead can be caught. Drifting eggs, yarn and other drift setups,
pulling plugs, casting jigs and fly-fishing are just a few of these
techniques. These
acrobats are fierce fighters and are great fun to catch. We use a drift
boat for the most part, but occasionally get out and wade for these fish. Winter
